    Research Experience 
    for 
    Undergraduates 

    A 10-week research opportunity at the forefront of signal processing and communication theory at the beautiful mountain valley setting of Utah State University.   

    Signal processing is the art  and science of taking signals – music, speech, radio, images --- and doing things with them using  mathematics and computers.   Communication theory is the foundation by which information is  transmitted and stored.  Coding theory provides for reliable information transmission. (Your iPod and cell phone are applications of these theories! )

    Program Requirements

    • Students in mathematics, electrical engineering, computer science, or physics
    • Must be U.S. citizen
    • Must have completed linear algebra, have familiarity with probability, and facility with programming
    • Minorities, women, and persons with disabilities are especially encouraged to apply.  Prior DSP or Comm. Theory a plus.

    Benefits

    • Intensive introduction to theoretical concepts, followed by directed research on topic of student’s choice
    • Regular activities in rugged canyon setting: hiking, climbing, tubing , etc.
    • Possibility of presentation at conferences
    • Guest lecturers
    • $6000 stipend for 10 weeks
    • Travel allowance
    • Program runs from June 8 to August 14, 2009
